5 Simple Ways To Be A Compelling Writer...Fast!

By Sonja Solaro

Most people would love to write in a more compelling way. Only a small improvement can effect your blog posts, emails, articles, web copy, and just about every other aspect of your business and life in a major way.

It's somewhat true when you think back to that old advice that, "practice makes perfect." But it's not 100% true. We need specific advice. And most of us don't have the time these days to sit around and write and write for hours on end, waiting for a small improvement to show up. We are looking for some quicker results. We are looking for tips we can use today.

Well, I am going to share five of my favorite tips and faster methods that you can use to improve your writing skills. You can then put these to immediate use, without having to sit for hours on end, for months and months just "practicing."

5 Tips For More Compelling Writing

1) Always add a photograph or illustration, if possible. It is definitely true that a picture is worth a thousand words. It almost seems like a crazy way to start a list on writing tips with this one, but it is very true. Pictures always grab people. They get attention and draw people to your writing. Then, they help keep people at your page. If an illustration is not allowed for some reason, paint a picture for your reader with your words. Be descriptive and entertain their senses.

2) Always write short sentences and paragraphs. Doing this makes it smoother for people to read through your work. Do not string out words into ongoing sentences and chunky paragraphs. Keep it clean, punchy and sharp. When it's fresh and to the point, it makes it much more enjoyable to read. This allows people to follow along and understand your message. And that is one of your main purposes.

3) Use bullet points and subheads to help guide people along. People process information better in pieces. So, use numbered bullet points, steps, or strategies whenever you can. This helps capture your reader's interest and it will also help them remember what you have written.

4) It is so important to be clear and concise. Tight pieces are easier to read and easier on the eye. This will delight your reader. Always make it your goal to write in an interesting style. Do not throw in a bunch of extra words describing things multiple times. Pieces that are too long and complex are often confusion. If you have more to say, why not break it into two pieces?

5) Never wander far away from your central point. Getting too many ideas and thoughts splashed through your piece will confuse readers about the main idea. It's a good idea to build an outline before starting. What's your main objective? Then choose about three or four subpoints that support it. Make sure each point is relevant to your piece.

These are five quick and easy tips, but don't underestimate them. They create powerful results when applied to your writing and they are tips you can begin using today. You are well on your way to becoming a more effective writer.
